POKEMON SUN & MOON ANALYSIS
On the upcoming release of 7th generation of Pokemon video game series next week (November 18th, 2016), the Pokemon Sun and Moon, and its leaks, we had learnt many things about the Alola region's Pokedex.
Popplio that will evolve to Brionne then Primarina (the water strater), I think is the best starter there. Here are the reasons:
- Good typing (Water/Fairy), with 3 weaknesses only (Grass, Electric, Poison), compared to Rowlett-Decidueye (Grass/Ghost) with 5 weaknesses (Fire, Ice, Flying, Dark, Ghost) and Litten-Inceneroar (Fire/Dark) with 4 weaknesses (Water, Ground, Rock, Fighting). Primarina's Water typing made the Fairy's weakness: Steel-type attacks, become normalized. Primarina's typing also make her resistant to 6 types: Water, Fire, Ice, Fighting, Dark, and Bug attacks in addition of an immunity to Dragon attacks.
- This water starter Pokemon has a good movepool. Primarina can learn water moves such as Surf, Scald, Hydro Pump, and its signature move: Sparkling Aria-which heals burn status of the target, super-effective against Fire, Ground, and Rock type Pokemons. Primarina also gets STAB in Fairy moves such as Moonblast and Dazzling Gleam that super-effective against Dark, Fighting, and Dragon types Pokemon. Moreover, Primarina can be given TM learnt moves like Ice Beam or Blizzard (super-effective against Grass, Flying, Ground, Dragon types Pokemon). Those already cover 8 types of super-effective attacks. Nevertheless Primarina also learn other good chunk of TMs like Energy Ball, Psychic, Shadow Ball, tankish moves such as Reflect, Light Screen, Rest - Sleep Talk, and even crippling moves like Toxic. So she likely could kills Decidueye and Inceneroar easily. How? It's up to your choice :).
Primarina's Possible Moveset - Primarina has the highest Special Attack of starter Pokemon ever in all generations, with a whopping 126 base stat on it, in addition of respectfully 116 base stat on Special Defense. Primarina also on the same speed as Inceneroar with 60 base stat, or only 10 points lower than Decidueye. Its downside is only on the Speed and physical terms obviously. She can be a specially bulky yet hard-hitting Pokemon to offer.
Primarina's Base Stats - With the leaks around, we also learnt about the Alola Pokemon League Elite Fours and the teams they have. There are Fighting, Rock, Flying, and Ghost specialists, and Primarina can be easily kills them all! Also Primarina can compete greatly with 3 of 6 Pokemons that Alolan Champion has.
IMHO. This analysis was made as objectively and competitively-oriented as possible. I personally do love the Rowlett - Dartrix - Decidueye's design that looks both mysterious and cool, also Litten - Torracat - Infeneroar's wrestler-like design. So what do you think?
